Introducing TinyBattles.com Where you can rate miniatures and models to your heart’s content

Posted by oddBattler on March 6th, 2008

We’ve just opened a new site called TinyBattles.com.  You can up load, for free, your miniatures and models and let others rate them.  It also has the benefit of being clean.  I’ve seen several miniatures and military models websites that had seedy models and filthy ads.  As much as we can monitor we will provide a safe environment for you to look, upload, view wargames miniatures and models

I bought a case of Axis and Allies Miniatures

I recently purchased the base starter set of the wargame Axis and Allies Miniatures and one booster pack. I purchased it for my son, but have only played it a few times. Honestly, it kind of bored me, but I’ve decided the problem is me, and instead of giving up, I purchased a case of Axis and Allies Miniatures for my son (birthday, please don’t tell him :)). I also purchased a Battletech start box, the Classic Battletech Introductory set. I’ll try and relay back when I’ve had a chance to play. I wanted these because I like sci-fi minis, but my son isn’t as thrilled with that genre, yet he likes mechs. Must be all those games of Mechassault on the old XBox he saw me and his older brother play. The Battletech miniatures are also unpainted (plastic), so we’ll get to have fun with that part of being a “real” wargamer too. He does enjoy painting.

Where we’d like to start on the miniatures

It’s difficult to decide, but we’ve went around on army men and some games-workshop Lord of the Rings miniatures I picked up at Christmas.  I believe what may do it use the Games-Workshop Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game rules and instead of buying tons of figures, just use army men, Star Wars guys or whatever miniatures we can find just to get through the rules.  As a beginner it will be interesting to see just how we find playing.

Welcome to Odd Battles

OddBattles is our life in learning about miniatures wargaming.  I am a novice wargamer in general and a novice miniature wargamer in particular.  There are several boardgame and wargame website on the Internet already, so I wanted to approach this in a way that would help those who were and are at the same stage as me - beginners - how to, and so on.  Essentially, what this blog will be about is an evolution of beginner to intermediate to advanced with a concentration on the miniatures.

If you noticed I said “our” above.  This is because I am in this hobby with my sons, and they will be giving their observations in writing or audio or both.  Again, I hope this miniature wargaming blog and future podcast will help other newcomers out there who are intimidated and overwhelmed by the hobby.

You’ll also find helpful links from those websites and podcasts that have inspired me.  I hope I/we can add just as much as they have to the miniatures wargame hobby.
